Day 10

Day 10 began with a trip to Chen's Ancestral Lineage Hall and The Yun Tai Garden Park. If you check out a couple of the pictures, the park actually looks rather freaky in a Johnny Depp Willy Wonka sort of way. Because of the heavy rain, our trip was short lived. We did get back for a most excellent lunch of homemade rice noodles (literally made and cooked right in front of us) with red pepper hot oil sauce (4 out of 5 stars on the so hot my nose is snotting and I can't feel my lips or tongue scale) and sesame cashews with pickled cucumbers (also hot!!!). We were also introduced to our new guide Lucia, who is great and will be with us the rest of the way (Lucia's new van driver looks like Mr. Chow from the Hangover...kind of talks like him to...bet I call him Mr. Chow at least five times before my stay is done here). Elvin had some official duty with the Asian games that he needed to tend to...either that or my Hong Kong feet were just too much for him to handle (Lucia is taking me for baking soda tomorrow and she also knows where to get some good mint!!) AJ has become quite a hit in the hotel. She is making lots of friends with the other adopted children in the hotel (There are a bunch) and the hotel staff cannot get enough of her. I was walking with AJ and Robin at breakfast today, and one of the staff members pointed and said, the poor girl, it will be ok soon. I thought she was talking about AJ's cleft, but in reality, she was talking about Robin's green hair. I have seen small children point at Robin, scream "ahhhh....Godzilla" and run. I have also heard others want her to use her superpowers as the Green Lantern to end crime in Guangzhou. For dinner tonight, we went to Lucy's...again, and ate in the Linen Room (that's right Tony, they named an entire room after you.) After finishing dinner, the waiter kept promoting their homemade apple pie. He was persistent, so we ordered a piece...quite possibly the worst excuse for apple pie EVER!! It tasted like Kugel with apples and raisins (trust me on this, I had a real live jewish girl sample it and she agreed...although when we left I heard some guy in the back room say "honey, don't order the apple pie, look what it did to that girl's hair!) These hair jokes never get old!!!! So, after having an insatiable hunger for apple pie, I went on a mission, and discovered a small slice of heaven at The White Swan deli. As I was devouring it, AJ looked at me with those pathetic "please daddy please, give me some pie" eyes, and I decided that it was time, time to see if she was a real Roberts...time to see if the girl liked the pie of all pies, APPLE Pie. Well, I will let the pictures speak for themselves. She is a true Roberts!!! Until tomorrow...

  1. We are glad that AJ fits into the Roberts family eating habits. Speaking of sweets Eric there is cake from the Bris and Michaels grad party in the freezer waiting for you! The cake from Michaels party is from Phyllis and very yummy! We loved looking at her pics at the party--lots of love waiting for her. Eric your pic in chinese garb made quite a hit--I have a feeling you are a definate Mr. Parkland. Seems like AJ is a real social butterfly and will be great with all your friends kids! Talk to you soon--Hugs, Kisses and Love

  2. Its Aunt Susie checking in after getting my daily fix of reading your great bog and of the Robert's family photos. Eric I tend to agree with you about the characters at that park - some our a little creepy looking. It sure seems Addison is very social. with her having the Robert's sweet tooth and her apparent love of people - she will will have a great time when you come home. I am so anxious to see you guys. and of yes, Eric - did you ever hear the saying that start out - "people in glass houses." A person with Hong Kong Feet should not be making fun of someone with Green Lantern hair. Looking forward to tomorrows entertaining blog and new pictures. Love Ya

  3. From Mom--a true Roberts-people laugh when I bake a birthday apple pie instead of cake with writing on it and candles-I guess I will have to add one to my list (Eric,Jeff, Sailor, Addison--Talan still would rather a cake!) after speaking to you today it sounds like Addison has quite the personality-she will fit in with her daddy quite well.--It was so good talking to you this morning--you sound so happy especially when you speak about your daughter--I am anxious for Addison to meet her cousins Sailor & Talan.
Five more days --enjoy Love you Mom & BIll

  4. Barb Rauch is following your blog and had this hint for the Green Lantern.
Tell Robin that I also had much green hair growing up in the pools of Allentown. My mother would mix alcohol (not the drinking kind!!) with water as a rinse after shampooing, and it would remove the green with no problem. :)

  5. I have to say, diaper pictures are my favorite! So sweet. Wow Robin, you must be ready to crucify Eric with all of his witty green hair jokes. Embrace it until you get home- I would be way too scared to let a stranger try to fix it! That park looks crazy! I wish I could go!

  8. From Linda Zeller:
Hey Roberts family! Looks like your adventures continue! I think that Yun Tai Garden Park is where they filmed Hatchy Malatchy...looks sort of familiar. "I see Robin, and I see Eric, oh, and I see Addison!"
Seems like Addison is quite the social butterfly...can't wait to meet her, and arrange play dates!
    'til tomorrow!

  9. Look at how big her eyes are going for that apple pie! Clearly she is in sweet tooth heaven! Just like her daddy:-) Have you started her on jellies, jams, and preserves, yet? The park absolutely looks crazy - but Eric watch the casual references to Johnny Depp - I got very excited thinking maybe he was in the pictures:-) Jazz and I send our love!

  11. Up to day 10 and I finally learned how to comment. Received instructions from Grandma Cramsey last week to no avail. Finally today she gave me good directions, I think Shelly had something to do with that. I am enjoying everyday reading this blog. Emotions were flying here so I can't even imagine what was going on there or at both grandmas houses. AJ is simply beautiful and I can already see the joy she is bringing. She seems to be fitting right in, especially with cupcakes and apple pie. Grandma Cramsey can't wait for her arrival. Not only is AJ bringing joy this way but she is truely going to be one lucky girl. I also am looking forward to meeting her. Can't wait to see all of you.
    Love,
    Aunt Susan MacDowell

  12. Robin we are all getting a lot of laughs at your expense, but the picture of Eric in traditional Chinese clothing
makes up for it all. LOL! (just so you know...that green is very easily removed from your hair...it happened to me in college and they just put some "treatment" on it for about half an hour and it rinsed right out) It looks like you guys are having a great time. We're all looking forward to meeting the little peanut...the boys will be ready to torment the poor little thing. :-)

  13. It's hard to believe that's it is just a week since you found each other -- seems like she has been a part of your life forever. Love reading about her emerging personality.

Yun Tai Garden Park really does look a little scary. I Googled it and found other parts to be very beautiful. I also found myself on lots of blogs -- saw pictures of families just like yours, posing and beaming with joy.

You have a big week ahead of you with passports, visas, oaths and blessings -- enjoy it all.

Love, Aunt Linda (Uncle Greg sends his love, too)
